WORKSHOP WEEK AT IDC Feb 8-12, 2016:

1. Design Hackathon workshops:

2. IDC: Workshop on Accessibility Patterns
This 5-day workshop on accessibility patterns will be organised in the workshop week (Feb 8-12) in IDC.

The workshop hopes to create patterns of improving accessibility for three areas in interaction design: text input in Indian languages, usable security, and form filling interfaces. During the workshop, we will discuss about the possible problems faced by people with various disabilities, review current approaches to solving these problems, brainstorm ideas for more solutions, and finally document the outcomes in the form of patterns.

Workshop schedule:
Monday, February 8: Introduction to accessibility (Charudatta Jadhav)
An introduction to accessibility, immersive experiences of text input, security, interaction mechanisms, case studies in accessibility
Tuesday, February 9: Introduction to patterns (UA Athavankar)
About patterns and pattern language, patterns compared to guidelines, standards, heuristics and principles, how to write a pattern, summary of findings from user studies with disabled users
      Wednesday, February 10: Security (TBC)
Review of security mechanisms such as passwords and captcha, review of current approaches to improving accessibility of security mechanisms, brainstorming, pattern writing in groups, presentation
Thursday, February 11: Text input in Indian languages (Girish Dalvi TBC)
Review of text input issues for Indian languages, review of current approaches to improving accessibility of text input mechanisms, brainstorming, pattern writing in groups, presentation
Wednesday, February 12: Form filling interfaces (Venkatesh TBC)
Review of form filling interfaces such as date picker and error management mechanisms, review of current approaches to improving accessibility of date picker and form filling mechanisms, brainstorming, pattern writing in groups, presentation

3. IDC: Workshop on Kathak by Shama Bhate: (Three days)

In an art medium like dance, the designs are many folds, and at different levels, and spheres …There are rhythmic designs, along with sound designs, there are stylized individual body lines, and there are spatial lines, which occur due to the movements of the dancers. All these are already well defined, well thought and spelt out by traditional and classical values.  The main point is they do not make a person’s thought process or vision circumscribed as it is normally perceived. There comes the element of design , because one needs to correlate, coordinate all these aspects into one whole , while creating a piece. In addition to that, in a performing art scenario . one is expected to make changes to the available space and the sensibilities of the audiences one faces/
In today’s scenario, the dancers are presenting their dance vision across, in a choreographic manner... They need to design the dancers’ vibrating movements in the space, the pulsating distances between two or three dancers and also in the space available to them. They need to consider the space available, but sometimes need to design that too. They need to think and choose the fabric the colors and the styles of the costumes to suit the theme and the spatial design. They need to consider the light design and sound design to get a comprehensive impact .
·      Lectures with demonstrations while keeping these aspects in mind .
·      Involve the participants in forming designs, both, sound and space.
·      Work with a group of dancers
·      Video presentations
